Speakers are mechanical devices as much as electronic ones, and like all mechanical devices, they wear with use and age. Surrounds perish, cones tear, voice coils burn out, crossover components fail, and cabinet joints loosen over decades of use. High-quality loudspeakers — particularly those from respected manufacturers — are worth repairing rather than replacing. A properly repaired speaker will perform as well as it did when new, often better, and at significantly less cost than a replacement. Pro-Logic Technologies provides expert speaker repair services in Nairobi for all types of loudspeakers.
What We Repair
Woofer and midrange driver repair — the most common speaker repair involves the surround, the flexible roll of foam or rubber that connects the outer edge of the driver cone to the basket. Foam surrounds in particular degrade over time, eventually becoming brittle, cracking, and crumbling, which causes distortion at low frequencies and ultimately mechanical failure of the driver. We carry out foam and rubber surround replacement on all woofer and midrange driver sizes using professionally prepared replacement surrounds matched to the original driver specifications.
For more severe damage — a torn cone, a burned voice coil, a collapsed spider — we carry out re-coning, completely rebuilding the driver with a new cone assembly while retaining the original magnet and basket.
Tweeter replacement — tweeters are the most fragile driver type, vulnerable to overdriving and to electrical spikes from amplifier faults or switch-on transients. We source replacement tweeters matched to the original specification for a wide range of speaker models, or advise on compatible upgrades where the original tweeter is no longer obtainable.
Crossover component replacement — the crossover network divides the audio signal between drivers, sending high frequencies to the tweeter and low frequencies to the woofer. Crossover components — capacitors and inductors — can degrade over time, altering the frequency response and damaging the careful voicing of the speaker design. We replace crossover capacitors and inspect crossover inductors as part of a full speaker restoration service.
Cabinet repair — cabinet joints that have separated, damaged veneer, and loose or missing drive unit fixing screws can all be addressed. A structurally sound cabinet is important for bass definition and low-level resonance control.
Binding post and terminal repair — oxidised, broken, or short-circuiting speaker terminals are a common cause of intermittent output and can be easily replaced.
The Restoration Approach
For vintage or high-value speaker systems, Pro-Logic Technologies offers a comprehensive restoration service covering driver surround replacement, crossover recapping, cabinet inspection and repair, and full acoustic testing. The result is a speaker system that performs as the designer intended — or better.
